Please make sure your email message has complete information about your issue, including your NetID and exact error messages, if applicable. -

You will need your NetID and NetID password to log into this self-service site. You should continue to call the Northwestern IT Support Center for basic assistance and visit Laptop ER for hands-on support of issues that cannot be resolved over the telephone. -

Server Support
As for hardware, servers usually refer to computers that have high computing power and can be used by multiple users. There are many differences between a server and an ordinary computer. For example, an ordinary computer usually only serves one user at a time.
Compared with a computer, the server needs to work continuously in a 7X24 hour environment. This means that the server needs more stability technology. Backup Solution
Backup planning has the advantages of easy data copying, reduced storage space, and fast data search, but most of the data is stored on storage media (such as hard disks, CDs, tapes, etc.). These media are very fragile and easy to obtain, causing great data insecurity. The main consideration for backup is to be able to protect the important data and systems of the enterprise in the event of data loss or disaster, and to quickly restore the backup data to ensure that the operation of the enterprise can never stop under any circumstances.
In the early years, most of the backup media used tape or optical disk for backup. In recent years, due to the sharp drop in the cost of hard disks and the increase in storage space, many companies have switched to external hard disks or NAS network storage systems. Broad increase in bandwidth and low cost have led to various off-site backups, and even cloud host backups.
Backup Planning and Disaster Recovery
The main consideration for backup is the ease of backup, the correctness of the data, and the security of the data after the backup. The ease of backup means that all backups must be able to be backed up automatically and regularly, without manual backups, just check the backup status. The correctness of the data means that the backup data must be confirmed to be usable in the event of data loss or disaster, otherwise no more backups will be useful. For data security, it is recommended that important data be backed up at least two copies and stored in different places (remote backup).
Backups can be divided into full backups, differential backups and incremental backups according to their classifications. - If users lost some parts of borrowed hardwares such as power adapter. User should pay the replacement cost of each part.
- If hardware was damaged during the lending period, Top Network would inspect the level of damage and charge the user back the repair cost.
Borrower responsibility
- Registered users have to take full responsibility for the hardwares and any damage or loss will be accountable for it. Therefore, user should not further lend the hardwares to other user.
- Never leave loan items unattended. When user returns the borrowed hardwares, system will return back to the original setting immediately. All files in the hardwares will be deleted. Top Network will not take responsibility for any deleted or corrupted files in the hardwares.
- Do not attempt to install unauthorized or pirated software applications.
- Resulting from improper use of software leading files gets infected by virus in hardwares. Top Network will not take any responsibility.
- Copy and migrate of installed software is not allowed.
